About this listen
Ever wondered what sort of a police officer you might make?
Alfie Moore spent eighteen years on the Humberside police force before turning to stand-up comedy. In each episode of this live stand up show, he takes his audience through a scenario based on a real life case, and tasks them with deciding how they would have acted in the circumstances.
From drink driving to a missing gnome, road traffic collisions to the tricky subject of Stop and Search, not to mention a case in which you must imagine what it would be like if Bruce Lee came from Scunthorpe and had been hammering the kebabs for twenty years…
Along the way Alfie spills the beans on what it's really like to be one of Britain's finest, tells us some great anecdotes about law breakers and makers that he's come across and gets his audience to divulge secrets about their own, sometimes less than strictly law-abiding lives.
"Genuinely funny, sharp observational comedy....deftly done" - Chortle
"Brilliantly funny, genuinely hilarious" - David Mitchell
"A large dash of police gallows humour" - The Telegraph
"Offbeat, revealing and very funny" - Daily Mail
"A very funny man" - Rhod Gilbert

It stands out from the normal Radio 4 fare because:
1. It is actually very funny and isn’t afraid to challenge the audience’s preconceptions (maybe “The Now Show” presenters could learn something on that front).
2. Perhaps not unrelated to point 1, it has a distinct Northern sensibility - Alfie draws upon his working experience in Humberside and mercilessly makes fun of the Met police.
3. The frequent interactions with the audience are brilliant and Alfie lets the public show how funny they can be.
4. Whilst you’re laughing you also learn a lot about the law and the difficulties of trying to apply it in real life situations.
To sum up - a diamond in the midden of Radio 4’s usual comedy output. Who’d have thought that there was life and license fee payers north of Watford?

I rarely write reviews but this series moved me to. I bought this after hearing one episode on radio and I wasn't disappointed. Laugh-out-loud moments abound and it keeps you engaged from beginning to end. Bravo!

Alfie very much at times when he picks up speed, sounds like comedian Lee Mack.
