Summary
Lord Philippe Lavay once took to the high seas armed with charm as lethal as his sword, and a stone-cold conviction: he'll restore his family's fortune and honor, no matter the cost. Victory is at last within reach - when a brutal attack snatches it from his grasp and lands him in Pennyroyal Green.
An afternoon of bliss brings a cascade of consequences for Elise Fountain. She is shunned by her family and ousted from a job she loves, and her survival means a plummet down the social ladder to a position no woman has yet been able to keep: housekeeper to a frighteningly formidable prince.
The bold and gentle Elise sees past his battered body into Philippe's barricaded heart...and her innate sensuality ignites his blood. Now a man who thought he could never love and a woman who thought she would never again trust must fight an incendiary passion that could be the ruin of them both.
Contains mature themes.

Nice one
Great narration (even the french accent)! I like these stories - there are some great metaphors and enough character development to raise it above the usual quality in this genre.

Julie Anne Long needs to write HR forever
Another great one. Essential to the final book in the series I’m guessing bc of a certain connection to Lyon & Olivia. I loved how straight forward this book was, where there was no third-party getting in the way but an rather it was an obstacle of choice. No Isaiah Redmond or Alex as a possible impediment, but just whether Phillip would chose to forego his ‘duty.’ Elise and Phillip were a wonderful pairing. I especially enjoyed listening to the first half of the book, which was essentially them sparring with matching parchment dry wit. So dry, I genuinely don’t know how JAL constructs such perfect dialogue.
Liked seeing Evie & Adam and Asher & Violet again. How I wish we’d have seen more of Cynthia & Miles or Jonathan & Thommy but maybe that will be in the last book.
Justine Eyre did a masterful French accent! Unlike her pan-Anything That Isn’t Upper Crust Or Cockney English accent (aka, her Irish/Welsh/Scottish/Northern accent—which if you know JE is the same accent, sadly, and hard on the ears if you have spent time amongst the Irish/Welsh/a Scottish or Northerners) her continental accents are usually pretty good. I forgot how excellent her French accent is. Phillip in a passion was... well it’s no wonder Elise loves his voice or how he says “chagrin.”
Highly recommend, can’t wait (but also sad) for the last book!
JAL, can you write all the HR, ever? Don’t write modern romance, write HR!!! You are so damn good at it.
