The ukiyo-e that were developed in the Edo period were the advertising posters, postcards, and book illustrations of their time.

江戸時代に発展した浮世絵は、現在の広告ポスターや絵葉書、本の挿絵に相当します。
「浮世」が「現世」を意味するように、浮世絵には当時の日常生活や役者、遊女や景色などが生き生きと描かれました。
なかでもエロティックなシーンを描いたものは春画と呼ばれました。
版画である浮世絵は大量生産が可能で、価格も安く、庶民の間に広く普及しました。
代表的な作者として、喜多川歌麿や歌川(安藤)広重、葛飾北斎などが有名です。
当時、日本では身近な浮世絵も海外では美術品とみなされ、19世紀には多くが海外に流出。ゴッホやモネ、ドビュッシーなど西洋の芸術家に大きな影響を与えました。©2017 KODANSHA
