 Hakata Dontaku is a festival celebrated by the citizens of Fukuoka City in Fukuoka Prefecture. 博多どんたくは、毎年5月3日と4日の2日間に、福岡県福岡市で行われる市民参加の祭りです。平安時代に始まった、博多松囃子を起原とします。
明治時代になって一時中断しましたが、1879（明治12）年に復活。オランダ語で「休日」を意味する「ゾンターク」に由来し、博多どんたくと呼ばれるようになりました。
この祭りでは、30以上のステージでイベントが行われ、花火が打ち上がり、しゃもじを持った人々や派手な装飾の「花自動車」などが町を練り歩きます。
祭りの最後に行われる「総おどり」には、観光客も参加することができます。
博多どんたくは、ゴールデンウィークと呼ばれる連休中に行われるため、毎年200万人以上の人々が訪れます。©2017 KODANSHA　 English Language Learning
