The writer holds you, clutching your fast beating heart in your mouth. Every sentence full of our appalling and dangerous past, with a soul searching flashlight, picking the happiest and saddest moments with the presion of an established master craftsman at his finest. Wicked story!

it was a pleasure to hear of the characters and their nuances from the past books. Especially as it was thought there was no way back for Utread and friends. The comic moments also ring true as all are obviously good life long friends in a time when life for most was terribly short. I am hoping for more.

I'm a big fan of Uthred and a long time reader of Bernard Cornwell, however this set of three short stories seemed to be nothing more than an easy way to make some money. The first two stories were almost pointless, and the last had an 80 year-old Uthred fighting his last shield wall. I would have expected this audiobook to be free rather than being charged a full credit.

Awful, no storylines, no excitement, feels like it’s ghost or AI written, and not much Bernard Cornwall style of writing included.
Story 1-potted history of England from Romans to Vikings.
Story 2- Old man’s recollection of a miracle by King Alfred.
Story 3- Short story on slaver revenge-plodding and with a dull battle at the end.
4 hours for full price,— which is disappointing.
The Narrator tried hard, but you can’t polish a turd.
