About this listen

Across the Western world, more and more people are slowing down. Slower is better: better work, better productivity, better exercise, better sex, better food. Don't hurry, be happy.

Almost everyone complains about the hectic pace of their lives. These days our culture teaches that faster is better. But in the race to keep up, everything suffers - our work, diet and health; our relationships and sex lives.

Carl Honoré uncovers a movement that challenges the cult of speed. In this entertaining and hands-on investigation, he takes us on a tour of the emerging slow movement: from a Tantric sex workshop in London to a meditation room for Tokyo executives, from a SuperSlow exercise studio in New York to Italy, home of the Slow Food, Slow Cities and Slow Sex movements.

Great read and introduction into the philosophy of slow. Now to put into action.

Really, really loved this book. Kept listening to more and more of it when I should have been going to sleep! The author makes a very persuasive case against what he calls the "cult of speed" and in favour of slowing down in every aspect of life. Loved the deep research, the insights and all the stories and examples from around the world. Very inspiring! I also found the book very funny at several points. I’m new to audiobooks so don’t have a lot to compare to but I really liked the author's voice and reading style. The best part is that listening to this book has actually helped me to make some really big changes in my life. I'm grateful to the author and will definitely look out for future books of his to listen to.

This book is a godsend

This book achieves a greater understanding of slowing down. Balance is very important in our life, it is essential for our health. I have read this book for my book club, and it was an eye opener . This is coming from a complementary therapist.

The reality of how speed affects us.

I liked how each chapter captures different elements of life from work, leisure time, community living to slow parenting and relationships. Lots of food for thought. Got me thinking about the little ways I can try and slow down for my own mental health.

Recognising the value of slowing down

a fascinating exploration into why taking our time can be a benefit to our wellbeing, communities, and the economy. will take lessons from it! can be repetitive which is exacerbated by a dry narration. Worth listening too but I'd recommend listening in batches rather than in one sitting.

interesting and useful but flat performance

Some great ideas shared in this book about the urgent need to slow down and the beautiful habits that can come out of a slower life. Unfortunately the author is quite repetitive to the point that it becomes a little frustrating to listen to.

Great ideas but quite repetitive
