About this listen
OCD-afflicted Griffin has just lost his first love, Theo, in a drowning accident. In an attempt to hold on to every piece of the past, he forges a friendship with Theo's last boyfriend, Jackson. When Jackson begins to exhibit signs of guilt, Griffin suspects he's hiding something and will stop at nothing to get to the truth about Theo's death. But as the grieving pair grows closer, listeners will question Griffin's own version of the truth - in terms of both what he's willing to hide and what true love means.

I was pleasantly surprised by the way the events unfolded. I was sure, from early on, how I expected the story to end, but I was mistaken. I won't say more so not to spoil the story.
Excellent read (listen)

A story of loss in many forms

I found it particularly clever how teenage characters presented very adult feelings and reactions, but in a totally believable way. But the most impressive part of the writing was the switch between history & the present day. This was so well done that every time you returned to the present, you felt the gut-wrench that a principle character was dead (not a spoiler!), so, as a reader, you were walking the same journey as the narrating character.
Occasionally I felt the language was a little over dramatic, hence my 4 stars instead of 5, but this was few and far between. I've given 4 stars for the narrating only because there was moments where the narrator sometimes became much louder or more pronounced, which pulled you from a moment. But otherwise, Tom Picasso handled the narrating with aplomb.
Overall a great book - I often became so absorbed I nearly missed my bus stop!
A beautiful but heartwrenching story
