About this listen
I’ve crafted my new life in Ember Falls with two simple rules: maintain superficial relationships and always be ready to run.
But when my son’s incredibly hot hockey coach Miles Anderson walks in, things get very, very complicated.
With his charming smile and our accidental dates, he’s the exact opposite of any man I’ve ever dated. That should make saying yes to being with him simple, but nothing in my life is easy.
In fact, it’s a mess. Miles makes me smile and treats my son like his own. When we’re together, I forget about my troubles and dream of a life that I will never be able to have with him.
It’s only a matter of time until the past comes knocking and I’ll have to leave, breaking us both in the process.
Narrated in the Duet Style!

Here and Now incorporates several of my favourite tropes:
Single mother on the run: Penny’s history and protective instincts shape her decisions.
Small-town setting: Ember Falls provides a sense of community and contrast to Penny's transient lifestyle.
He falls first: Miles’ dedication to Penny and her son establishes him as an empathetic and endearing character.
Miles was such a well-rounded character, and I adored every aspect of him. What stood out most was his persistence in pursuing Penny - he was absolutely sure that their connection was worth fighting for, and he never gave up on her. His relationships with his sister, his nephew, and the entire town showcased his genuine, caring nature, making him the ultimate green flag.
Penny was a resilient and compelling character, shaped by all she had endured. Her journey throughout the book was truly remarkable. At first, she was determined to keep herself and Kai isolated from everyone around them, convinced it was the only way to protect themselves. But as the story unfolded, Penny found not just love with Miles, but also a sense of belonging in a town full of people who welcomed her and Kai wholeheartedly into their community.
Quinn, Liam, and Jackson from the Salvation series make appearances in the book, and I absolutely loved it!
Jason and Angelina delivered an excellent duet narration, truly bringing the story to life with their captivating performances.
