With Hegel philosophy became very difficult indeed – even the great man himself conceded that ‘only one man understands me, and even he does not.’ His dialectical method produced the most grandiose metaphysical system known to humanity, and included absolutely everything, its most vital element being the dialectic of the thesis, antithesis and synthesis. This method arose from Hegel’s ambition to overcome the deficiencies of logic and ascend towards Mind as the ultimate reality. His view of history as a process of humanity’s self-realisation ultimately inspired Marx to synthesise his philosophy of dialectical materialism.

Poorly recorded, with the narrator probably too close to the microphone. His gasping for breath between sentences is unpleasant and totally distracting. The same is true of some other audiobooks in this series.

This is the 1st book in this series I have listened to. It is shallow, mocking, & assured only of its superiority to a great thinker. Why anyone thought it a good idea for someone who clearly doesn't get Hegel to write this is beyond me. Whether motivated by Schopenhauer's resentment, Popper's naivety, or just ignorant desire for comedic effect I am not sure.
