About this listen

Max Hofstedder has been recruited to the Sacramento Titans as a third string goalie and even if he doesn’t get to play a game this season, he’s thrilled. On opening night at their new stadium, he gets the chance he hopes for when the first- and second-string goalies are both out with injuries. After the first period he’s fighting to stay in the game.

Ruben Franklin is the Titan’s team doctor and after the team suffers multiple injuries, he’s thrown headfirst into a job he’s unfamiliar with but is ready for the challenge. One of the more seriously injured is the one and only goalie.

As Max is treated for his injuries by Ruben, he tries hard not to let on how badly he’s hurt, but Ruben isn’t easily fooled. When they finally get some time alone outside the stadium, they both realize there might be more between them than the team doctor treating an injured player.

Heart of Ice is a slow burn, MM Hockey Romance.

I enjoyed Max and Ruben’s story, though maybe not as much as some of this author’s books.
They are instantly drawn to each other, and not only in a physical way, but emotionally, too, but they wait to act on their feelings due to them working together. So this is as much an insta-love as a slow-burn story, however strange it may seem.
I must admit, I am completely ignorant about hockey, so all the action on ice was completely lost on me, but I enjoyed the story’s pace.

A slow-burn insta-love...

A hockey romance between a player and the team doctor brought to life as an audiobook, easy to listen to, adorable in its sweetness, a charm for an afternoon or evening of indulgence.

Max is starting out as third string goalie for the Sacramento Titans, unfortunate events lead to him playing and then promoted to second string. Even more unfortunately a nasty hit to the knee puts him on Dr Ruben's radar, under his care, stoking the flame that began to light up as soon as Max set eyes on the other man!

All that is unfortunate but it all works out well for the pair whose relationship develops quickly. The ups and downs of the game, the learning curve for the new doctor and the new goalie, the romance building into steam between them is all narrated with tenderness, care, passion and makes for a great listen. Guy Veryzer narrates carefully, manages to add inflections to his voice for different characters and carries the listener through the story with rapt attention.

Max is a new member of a hockey team, a goalie.
He gets a shot on his first official game because the others are out for various reasons.
Ruben is the new team doctor who's soloing on his own with no hockey experience only soccer.
Both are nervous and worried they won't live up to expectations.
Max is injured in his first game and Ruben stays over night to monitor him.
There's instant chemistry between them and a really slow burn romance begins between them.
They have some issues dealing with others trying to cause problems but overall they deal with everything in a very mature manner.
Guy Veryzer did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.
