Just as much fun as a Harvest festival

I enjoyed this book. This is the first book by this author I have read or listened to, despite it being book two in the series but it won't be my last. I really liked the characters, who were a lot of fun and it didn't matter that this was the first time of meeting them. It is a fairly short story but the author packs a lot into the story and I really felt like I was at the festival because the author painted a colour picture with her words and it was easy to imagine the pie flying throw the air. I did think the mystery ended suddenly and Gladys didn't have a clue who the killer was but then again neither did I. But otherwise I enjoyed the fun and antics of Gladys and will be visiting again.
After a bad break up Gladys needs a holiday and on the spur of the moment decides to return to her hometown and visit her cousin. Her cousin Suzie is less than pleased to see her after there calling out but Gladys talks her round when she finds herself being talked into entering the cooking competition for the harvest festival. The judge is an old rival of Gladys and she looks forward to making her choose her as the winner. Things don't go well when someone starts stealing from the festival and worse Gladys ends up in jail for using strawberries in her baking and is accused of trying to murder the judge. How was she to know she was allergic to strawberries? Then the judge is found dead and Gladys is the number one suspect. Can Gladys catch a thief and unmask a killer while still getting her buns in the oven?
I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job bringing Gladys and her friends to life with there individual voices.
