Summary

The first official novel from Game Grumps

Listen up, kid. My name is Dr. Cecil H.H. Mills. I’m the author of this book and many other ones that you might not have heard of. This book is about two idiot wannabe detective-types. Their names are J.J. and Valentine Watts, but I’m not sure if they’re actually brothers or not.

They make a friend; her name is Trudi de la Rosa. She’s a wannabe detective-type too, but honestly, she’s less of an idiot than the brothers.

The three of them team up to solve a mystery that takes place in a snowy chateau up in the mountains. It gets more complicated around chapter 11, but now you’ve got the main gist of it. The story’s full of intrigue and adventure and puzzles and light violence and some swear words. It’s really entertaining.

Just buy the book and start listening. You’ll understand everything about the Ghost Hunters Adventure Club very soon.

Awesome

I loved everything about this book, from the way it was told to the twists and turns, to the way it broke the 4th wall and the attempt at accents.

Buy this book.

I would never usually read something like this, but after being gently persuaded into buying this book, I did. No regrets.

Ghost Hunter Hotel Grande

Narration great, Narrator great and Story... well that was fun :)

Ghost Hunters Adventure Club was the first audio book to bring me to Audible. The excitment brought by the Game Grumps team during their recent (at time of writing) stream showcasing the first few chapters of the book left a lasting impact that itched in my brain for days before quite suddenly I was listening to it eagerly one night.

The Cover: it's never good to judge a book by just its cover but when the cover bleeds nostalgia for something that you never even experienced, that is something special. I was taken to my imagined times of reading such books with similar covers when perusing the swap and share bookshelves at various camp and caravan sites I went to as a kid. Thinking of reading extravagant adventures and alluring mysteries, if I could ever get off my Game Boy. A lovely picture and very effective.

The Narration: Oh my! the narration was perfect in not being wholly perfect! there is a definite feeling of parody through love in this performance. Bold changes in voice for each character not completely consistent but in that expert level of always feeling like a person. In that I mean it's not a perfected radio play with clean voicing and perfect phrasing Nor is it comically full of jarring errors relentlessly reminding you that this is all a joke, because it isn't. The tone both narratively and meta narratively pulls effortlessly between a dictation to an old hand held tape recorder, grand and like a lecture to a campfire tale inclusive and jovial to then still a close and private bed time story read to you by a loved one. Again well done on the narration. I have never quite got to the place of a voice actor but Arin (who I think we all know did this) is a blooming marvel at giving us the long stretch of voice acting. As a man with little attention span but the incessant habit of slipping into "funny" voices I know that anything longer than a bit or even coming back to a bit makes the likely event of the voice sounding different or mixing voices up either completely or blending them. Whilst this does happen in some lines with Arin, again it is only a few and is more endearing, like daring your friend to hold their breath for a minute and they end up doing three. it is an achievable result and miles beyond what you expected of them. He is a man who brings a smile to my heart.

Narrative: I can't say I have the best command of English literacy (as evidenced here) so my comments are just emotional opinions. I liked the story. It had mysteries and adventure but it may be me not resonating with the young adult vibe. I did in some ways want things to be a little more perilous for our characters but I feel the tone was done well. The moment about a character who was alluded to be a proficient sweater with then going on to only saying "hell" (there may have been a S--- in there too) balances out the genuine human experience of swearing without needing to explicitly indulge in it. I just thought the whole adventure was neat.

A fantastic time had, thank you to all involved in making this.

GamegGrumps fan or not, you'll enjoy this

The story is really nothing to write home about, but the delivery of the jokes and the voice acting is top notch and deserves your time.

I used to read Nancy Drew as a kid

The voice actors/story was fun and reminded me of old Nancy Drew books that I read as a kid (my dyslexia only let me read old Nancy Drew for some reason). The jokes at times can be maybe not for kids but I think it could also go over their heads just as easily. I also like the background story of the author being in debt forced to make this book.

Surprised Me

Ok so if you know and like Egoraptor (Arin Hanson) and find him funny, like myself, you'll love this book. It honestly surprised me how good this book actually is. You can tell how much fun he had creating and sticking to a character for almost 5 hours and it shines through in the writing and voice performances. Story is decent and the clues are there to be picked up as you listen, would highly recommend
