Summary

The teen years are tough - for teens and for parents. Many parents dread the moodiness, dishonesty, preference of friends over family, exam stress, and push for greater independence. Mothers have a pivotal role to play; this is a guidebook for parents and mothers of girls in particular as they navigate the rocky teenage landscape with their daughters aged 8 to 18.

It aims to help them embrace the potential of their child's teenage years by marking this time of growing maturity for girls and celebrating it with them. We celebrate birth, marriage and death, but this important life transition from child to young adult is nowadays rarely acknowledged within an appropriate community.

Fabulous easy read, full of sound advice

My teenage daughter has already grown and I enjoyed her teen years... but I still loved this book! It is a lovely read for any girl or woman... or indeed, any man who lives with one. Possibly even more enjoyable as an "audible book" as Kim's voice is gentle and full of warmth and humour.

The book is ideal for anyone with a daughter of any age; Kim's advice starts right from toddler and she recommends creating a foundation way before the teen years - but it is not too late to get help even if you are right in the midst of teen tantrums.

But it was an equally wonderful read for me; cathartic, having recently faced the "empty nest" - and also it allowed me to look back on everything I missed during my teen years and treat myself more kindly as a result.

There is nothing startling or difficult to follow - just a ton of calm, sane advice all in one place.

Painfully middle class!!

Suggesting spa days and reducing working hours to spend time with your teenage daughter are just two examples of a book that feels out of touch with significant parts of society.

The book is full of good advice, if you can get over the middle class privilege. It’s pretty heavy on the advice but then on some key things, the author refuses to be drawn.
