Diese seine Profilierung als Nietzsche-Kenner ist auch zu verstehen vor dem Hintergrund seines damaligen Bestrebens, selbst möglicherweise als Herausgeber der Werke und des Nachlasses von Nietzsches tätig zu werden, was aber aufgrund von Konflikten mit Nietsches Schwester nicht zustande kam.
