Summary

A breakneck adventure for the Serenity crew in the seventh original novel tying into the beloved Firefly series from creator Joss Whedon

A simple job
Serenity is bound for the planet Kerry with a hold full of sealed unidentified cargo for the planet’s highest-ranking nobleman. The duke is a surprisingly genial man whose court brings all the fanciness and fun of Persephone’s high society but little of the pretension—and, most importantly, he’s got the promise of more work.

Some fine hospitality
Obliged to stick around while Inara is with a client—and hoping to score future employment—the crew settles in. The liquor flows freely at court, and there’s food, entertainment, and comfortable lodgings to enjoy. Everyone is thrilled but Zoë. Her gut says something is off.

A vicious massacre
When the duke’s estate is attacked in the middle of the night, Mal sends Serenity to safety while he and Zoë investigate. What they find turns the whole story of Kerry upside-down. Revolution is brewing, and each of them will have to decide where to make their stand, even if it lands them on opposite sides …

Just, perfect.

What can I say? Every single one of these audiobooks is so visual in descriptors that you can actually see Mal and the gang playing out the story like your own private theatre.
The characterisation of our most beloved crew is honestly perfection. Every subtle (and the not so subtle) reference to the show from the classic 'I'm trying not to punch you' Mal smile, to Rivers cryptic babbling to every Mandarin curse flung out to the verse... it's just so..... Firefly! I don't know what else to say. It's the Season 2 we were all so brutally denied. Thank you so much to every writer, publisher and to James Anderson Foster narrator for bringing these stories to life.

On that note - if James ever tries quit or get replaced, so help me there'll be a riot. His performance of every single character is tone, inflection and quirk perfect. Incredibly, he even manages to sound EXACTLY like Mal, Jayne and Book. Honestly, just give the man every raise he ever asks for - please!!

Firefly ultimate, superb.

This is the best Firefly story ever!!!, including all that has ever been written for print and TV.

There are fine nuances in the story around the plot line, the right amount of jargon and hesitation in the crews communication and a lot of “between the lines” communication and body language that you would normally convey better in the TV show.

The job of the narrator could not have been done better, thanks James Anderson Foster.

This will have to be followed up by the author.

Another hit!

I’m really enjoying the Firefly books and the narration by J.A.F - flowing story telling and easy to envision.

Capers and escapades

Another great story, with predictably awesome narration and good but slightly sad ending. Feels like this fits just before the film I think.

Just like an episode from the series

Really well written. Evokes all the excitement, danger, camaraderie and humour from the Firefly series. It is so good to hear new stories featuring the characters and do well written and told. I loved it!
