Summary
The Fawcett Green bell-ringers don’t bat an eyelid when Simone Hollingsworth fails to turn up to practice. They merely assume that bell-ringing has become the latest in a long list of her abandoned hobbies.
But then the increasingly strange behaviour of Simone’s husband, Alan, begins to raise neighbourly suspicions about her whereabouts. And when the discovery of a body draws Chief Inspector Barnaby to the village, it becomes clear that unravelling the couple’s tangled lives will have painful repercussions for the whole village...

"Satisfies on every level: wicked humor, intricate plotting, and razor-sharp characterizations." (Philadelphia Inquirer)

Great Plot and Superb Narration - faultless
Loved the characters as always and fascinating to witness different sides of our two main protagonists, emerge in ways not usually seen.
Great plot and some lovely and some sad characters. Heartbreaking in places.
Outstanding book and brilliantly narrated by the highly talented John Hopkins who is of course Scott in the TV series but could too, be Barnaby himself in this book, so excellent is his performance.

Great performance and story
Working my way through all of the Midsomer Murders by Caroline Graham. Previously read years ago and enjoyed and now enjoying them all on audio. I have enjoyed each one. The performance is exceptional. I Will be returning to these stories.

Not Very Enjoyable
I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others, however, the performance is faultless as in previous books. The story is rather poor and most of the characters, even Barnaby and Troy, are rather dislikable. All in all, disappointing.

Wonderful writing
Even if this story was a little predictable, it was still very interesting to follow how it all unravelled. Caroline Graham is such a wonderful writer that you’d wish the stories wouldn’t end, her characters are interesting, and she finds a way to make you relate even to the not so lovable ones. Sergeant Troy is definitely becoming more chauvinistic and off putting at times, but despite all his failings, I still felt for him for his emotional confusion.

A masterful example of the genre.
As always, Caroline Graham writes masterfully. Her characters are deeply nuanced in all their colourful, idiosyncratic and flawed glory. With marvellous attention to detail and well paced dialogue it is always joyfully entertaining to listen to the audiobooks.
I enjoyed the performance, the narrator often sounds similar to John Nettles to my ears, giving me the illusion that Tom Barnaby is narrating at times. Of course the difference between the book version and the television adaptations is apparent, nonetheless, I have fond memories of those shows before political correctness tainted virtually everything that the social sciences came into contact with.
I eagerly await more in the series.
