About this listen
This Christmas, I’ll be getting a visit from a man in a suit, only it won’t be Santa.
Let me first say: Reed York was never my boyfriend. He was the pen. I was the company ink. Though if you want to get technical, we were more like colleagues who hated each other...with benefits. Everything was fine until the charming jerk went behind my back, stole my promotion, and became my boss - literally overnight.
Refusing to work beneath him (professionally speaking and otherwise), I transferred 2,014 miles away to our Chicago division, and I’ve spent the past year trying to remember how much I hated his pantie-melting smirk so I can forget how much I secretly loved the way his ocean eyes lit every time I walked into the room.
But he’s just announced a last-minute site visit the week between Christmas and New Year’s, and on top of that, he’s audaciously designated me as his "right-hand gal" during his visit. If he thinks he has a snowball’s chance in this hell at getting back in my good graces, he’s got another thing coming.
Reed York might be a man used to getting everything he’s ever wanted, but Joa Jolivet is a woman who never forgets. He can put me on his Christmas list all he wants, but everyone knows naughty boys only get coal.

An enjoyable feel-good read.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It's a great storyline and I love the way it's unfolded. Although there are some sad emotions, there are also a lot of feel-good ones. In my opinion, the conclusions are excellent.
I wasn't impressed with how the story was narrated.

Modern Holiday Romance with a little Twist!
Initially, I thought the plot felt very familiar, but as the story progressed, it didn't turn out quite how I expected, in a good way! I also assumed at the start of the book that the characters were stereotypically depicted. Again, the reader/listener is taken by surprise when nothing is what it seems! I ended up enjoying listening to the story and rooting for Joa and Reed's HEA.
The structure of the book is a little different. I appreciate how the listener is warned of this at the beginning. I ended up loving how the past and present overlapped and paralleled each other, sometimes demonstrating contrasts and sometimes reaffirming feelings, etc. It might have been easier to stick to a linear timeline but that could have ended up a bit boring. This flitting from the past to the present and back again added dimension and texture to the storytelling. Very interesting!!
Overall, I enjoyed this Christmas audiobook! It is well performed and easy to listen to as well.

Not what I expected but was good
So they promoted this as a "hate to love" type romance but I'd say it was a second chance romance with a misunderstanding twist. I definitely didn't feel the hate at all, just more disappointment with some anger that quickly dissolved when the misunderstanding was cleared up.
Besides that, the story was paced well. Characters had a clear voice and it wrapped up with a nice HEA.
My only fault with it was the narrator with the dual POV. He does not do a good transition to a female voice, therefore it was hard to distinguish which POV we were listening to.

Exmazzing!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This story doesn't bring anything new to the table, but what it brings is good enough to feast on and tick all the boxes of the ex to lovers trope. 😘👍
