Summary
The US President, along with most of the Cabinet and Congress, is dead. Dazed and confused, the man who only minutes before had been confirmed as the new Vice-President of the United States is told that he is now President.
President John Patrick Ryan.
With stunning force, Ryan's responsibilities crush on him. He must calm an anxious and grieving nation, all while attempting to reconstitute a Cabinet and a Congress with the greatest possible speed.
But that is not all. Both within Washington DC and across the globe, there are those eager to act on the animosity towards the United States and others from Jack Ryan's past that harbour a grudge towards the new President himself. Soon they will present Jack Ryan with a crisis so big even he cannot imagine it.

The thriller of thrillers, hold on to your hats.
Would you consider the audio edition of Executive Orders to be better than the print version?
Yes, in that every last detail is presented. The danger with reading an exciting book is that you skip on too fast to find out what happens next. Much better to listen to every word properly.
What other book might you compare Executive Orders to, and why?
Clear and present danger.
What does Michael Prichard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Every detail is clear.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Kept me awake while on a long boring drive!

Awesome!
I love the Ryanverse and read/listened to quite a few. Michael Prichard should be the only narrator for Clancy books.

Epic tale from an on-form Clancy
Would you listen to Executive Orders again? Why?
Unlikely because it would be such a commitment!!!! 50 hrs!!!!!!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ryan of course.... the intelligent and honest hero. He was dealing with problems that are so relevant to today. I kept thinking about how he would be received by a modern electorate. Probably with the same distrust as all politicians.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Not sure it matched the pace but it did work well. The clarity and careful delivery of the words somehow matched the main characters and theme of the novel.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This probably would have been impossible due to its length but I did find myself easily listening to 2-3 hrs at a time and not wanting to end these sessions.
Any additional comments?
The book was fascinating because, although it was set post GulfWar 1, the topics were so relevant to all that is happening in the world right now. Quite eerie in fact! A visionary Clancy perhaps?

Best Clancy yet.
Could not put it down. Started with print then switched to audio so I could listen in the car, that's how hooked I was.

Average, interesting but muddled
This felt to me like maybe 3-4 shorter books spliced together, several of the main storylines culminating in effectively nothing towards the end and making them feel mostly irrelevant. Tom has a way with words, but is prone to repetition and this adds to the excessive nature of the novel. Many great characters return from previous outings and each was well developed and interesting, then on top of that add countless new ones, quite a challenge to keep up with.
Overall I did enjoy it but felt like it would have been so much better with much of the ‘fat’ trimmed, and it being perhaps two thirds it’s length.
If you are squeamish, be wary as this gets particularly graphic in places.

A great novel
Tom was a great story teller, the last act goes on a bit but I enjoyed it just a much as I did the last time I read it..... 20 years ago... I cannot help but wonder what Mr clancy would make of current affairs in a certain country beginning with A at the moment!!
