About this listen

Clarity's home is her spaceship. Living on the move. Planet to planet.

When money trouble forces Clarity and her traveling companion, Irohann, to take on passengers, Irohann worries his secret identity will be revealed. He's a canine alien on the run from an empire of sentient plants, and their queen has a personal vendetta against him.

But Clarity believes his fears are unfounded and the Doraspians gave up on him long ago.

Heartsick at the idea of losing their ship, Clarity accepts an offer that's clearly too good to be true, and they find themselves swept up in the crazy schemes of a rogue AI in a stolen robot body and her haphazardly assembled team of disparate aliens, including a hive-minded swarm, a giant insect, a rabbit-like alien, and a living spaceship who loves bunnies. Together, the team must break into an abandoned science station, mangled by an entangled particle trying to destroy the universe.

When disaster strikes, Clarity steps up to pull the team together, but it may come at the cost of the very home and friendship she was trying to save.

Don't miss this space opera full of unique and unforgettable aliens, and a universe full of adventure. Perfect for fans of classic space opera, from Star Wars to Firefly.

Fantastic start to a series

Just when you think it's going to be a fairly everyday story of a cargo lugging crew with a few struggles to get on with life kinda of story and then it goes all "Farscape" on you. Brilliant, thank you for coming up with an original take on this. I doff my hat to you.

Very interesting concept on aliens and how they'd view us plus the insect collective alien that I don't think I've ever come across before an idea so breathtaking and original.

Never heard a book narrated by Sierra Kline, but I will keep an eye out for more. Very clear and good differentiation between characters.

Creative, if oddly childish

I liked this book up until just before the end.

The main character is supposedly an adventurous, well-travelled, middle aged woman.
Yet in this story she is also profoundly naïve and often almost irrationally emotional in the face of adversity.

At first this was not such a problem, honestly I thought it was kind of an interesting take, something different from all the 'blaze, yippie ki-yay' protagonists.

But by the end, the MC is written as nothing more than a ball of emotion.

Where anyone with some emotional maturity would realize that things are really bad, buckle up and work through it, because there is literally no choice. The MC does not.

It reads as if this person has never known hardship of any kind, never had to work a crappy job, has never known the sorrow of loss or has been rebuked. I know teenagers with more emotional maturity than this middle-aged adventurer.

The emotional stunted-ness is not limited to the MC however, the supporting character are also incomplete: wise grandparent is easily scared and flustered, Experienced parents fumble with the love for their child, Life-long friend is oblivious to the plight of a friend, and so on.

This really starts to be annoy towards the end of this book, particularly because the MC suffers emotionally from all that is done to her, while failing to realize that she herself is just as bad. Betraying trust, Deserting friends (then not going through with it), literally giving up the secret identity of a friend (by accident?!)

This book is written so everyone 'should' feel bad for the MC, but take a step back, and you realize she is just as bad, maybe worse.

The creativity, the written description of creatures, the worlds and their beauty are what carries the story of this book more than the development of the characters.

Appealing Audio

This was a bit more of a check it out and see listen, the characters and situations that happen along with the general feel of the story is very farscapesque which i found appealing.
A little too descriptive for a lof the general feelings and perhaps a little too flowery for me personally i think.
By the end however i found that i was quite drawn into the world and further adventures of our characters.
Narration i found suited this story very well and Kline did an admiral job and would check out further work from her.
I requested this audio and have decided to leave my thoughts.

Fantastic start to a new series

it's a full story in itself and a great introduction to a new world of sentient 'animals' the narrator has a lovely soothing voice and good pace and accents for each character . I can't wait for the next one!

Team of diverse aliens on mission to save universe

Team of diverse aliens on mission to save universe

Good fun space opera adventure with team of different looking and sounding aliens with a living spaceship on a mission to save universe.
The main character is Clarity (story from her POV) a 50-year-old woman but in this universe humans live up to 200 and she acts more like 25.
Just wonder where book 2 will go after a mission to save universe.
Sierra Kline did very good job narrating this book
