About this listen

Millions of women have a painful fat condition called lipedema, in which the body accumulates abnormal adipose deposits in the legs, arms, buttocks, and hips. It is often misdiagnosed as obesity, causing the patient to go years without proper treatment, and possible disease progression. Advocacy for lipedema awareness can help provide early diagnosis and treatment, reduce misdiagnosis, improve access to important information regarding how to manage the condition, enhance treatment options, address stigma and body image issues, educate policymakers, and support research and funding. With all of these benefits, though, many women do not feel like their contributions can make a difference or even know how they could contribute to such a large cause.

Empowered Legs will walk through the full range of ways to contribute to advocacy, from the smallest act of sharing to full-blown community building and lawmaking. There's something you can do, and this book will show you many opportunities to help make a difference for this, and for future generations of women with lipedema.
