Lovely presentation, tough going for a beginner.

Enjoyed listening to this. Great cadence and clearly spoken. But as a newbie on the path - I found this tough going in most places, and took only parts away that I could understand. I'll have to come back another time.

I'm glad to have found this though. Well worth the time.

Most informative book on practicing Buddhism yet

Most informative and practical book on the practice of Buddhism I've read. Insightful and pragmatic ways to deepen understanding and practice of the eight fold path.

A book for attentiveness

Having read many “similar” books on philosophy, this one was especially well put together, and therefore ultimately very stimulating. It’s probably not for the most learned reader, who would gain less. But for beginner and mid level listener I would recommended strongly.

Beautiful. Clear. Profound.

Highly recommend this clear and compassionate book, written in relatable language with a touch of engaging humour and with practical, transformative advice for modern everyday life. The format may appear simple but the truths within are profound and life changing. Read or listen to it, apply the instructions and experience the difference in yourself and your life. Thank you to the author Bhante Henepola Gunarantana. Please keep teaching. Thank you also to the engaging narrator Julian Elfer.

It worked for me better as a book than an audio

I have read the paper version at least twice in the last 5 years and this book has taught me so much, I wanted to try it as an audio during my breakfasts hours now being a member of audible, I find audioboks are another great way to 'absorb'.

Having been used to the wonderful slow peaceful speech of Eckart Tolle's audiobooks here (all are excellent), I found the narrator of this book a real contrast, far too speedy for my liking and a little 'actor like' that I found it difficult to follow him.
He did not give enough time for the words to sink in, in order to let the Buddhas' message do its magic.
I think maybe a slower pace would have been more suitable.
(I am now off to buy with my 1 credit another Tolle's retreat audio. 13 hours of slow speech:)

Conclusion: Get the paper version of this book, get your felt tip out, and give the audio a miss if given a choice between both versions.

Uninspiring and long

I was extremely disappointed by the book. It was full of child-level examples. Concepts that are rudimentary and unispiring.

I have no previous knowledge of buddhism.
