About this listen

A legend begins in Dune: The Duke of Caladan, first in the Caladan Trilogy by New York Times best-selling authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Leto Atreides, duke of Caladan and father of the Muad'Dib. While all know of his fall and the rise of his son, little is known about the quiet ruler of Caladan and his partner, Jessica. Or how a duke of an inconsequential planet earned an emperor's favour, the ire of House Harkonnen and set himself on a collision course with his own death. This is the story.

A poor effort

I am a big Dune fan. The original series obviously stands out but I still thought the 'House' series was a reasonable effort. Not so much here. The writing is poor, the story telling slap dash and there is virtually no regard to the carefully prepared characterisation from the earlier novels. The characters are in fact almost comically badly portrayed. it's as though the author's just thought 'f*** it, let's just write any old tosh'. very disappointing.
