The narrators voice was very irritating and jarring with a sing song tone that had me gritting my teeth and skipped more than half if the book in the hope that it will get better, which it unfortunately did not

The plot was interesting though hard to follow because of the narration

I did listen to the whole story but for the life of me,... I can't think why!! The Narrator had a lovely voice but I felt he read it as if he was reporting on a horse race... But couldn't be bothered.

A run of the mill 'poor me cinderella' story.

This was a delightful listen. The author created lovable characters and a engaging plot set in a fascinating period of history. The narrator is one of my favorites, and as always he brought the story and the characters to life with his pleasant and expressive voice. He had a great range of voices for the different characters, and he conveyed their emotions and personalities very well. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves this genre. I can’t wait to listen to the next installment. Thank you for making this book free… it convinced me to purchase the rest of the series :)

A very enjoyable love story

The story all in all is actually pretty good and interesting BUT UNFORTUNATELY this time the narrator, who I usually love to listen to, did a terrible job

Normally he is so good with his voice but here, he failed on many levels which made listening to the story this time, not a great experience.

I love the story of feisty Emma hiding her secret from the family who created the problem. However, I always have an issue with a male narrator of Regency romances and this one is does not change my opinion. While the narration of the story and characterisation of the male characters is fine, it is the characterisation of the females that is the problem. Emma sounds like a timid mouse which she certainly isn't and Lady Hambridge sounds like an ancient harridan - again something she isn't. Please leave Regency romances and their female characters to female narrators.

excellent story but

It isn’t difficult to listen to thanks to Alex Wyndham’s narration—his voice and style makes almost anything a treat—but a very lacking love story made this book hard to invest in. When the ending comes I wasn’t quite sure how we’d gotten to a HEA... there was more spark between Edmund and Emma than her and the Duke. All the pieces were there for something quite good, but the execution fell rather short. Might return for later books in the series if AW continues to narrate, otherwise it’s a pass for me.
