Summary

In this interview, geneticist Dr Giles Yeo discusses how genes influence our eating habits and tells us about his key areas of research.

He visited Audible Studios to talk about his audiobook, Gene Eating: The Science of Obesity, and the truth about diets, and we talked about what role scientists should play in our ‘post-truth’ world, how much we know about the gut microbiome and why we should avoid extreme diets.

According to Dr Giles Yeo’s research, 'the UK has the biggest waistlines in Western Europe and an enormous problem of other diet-related illnesses. Our modern lifestyle, coupled with the food environment, has made weight loss the biggest public health quest of today.' Gene Eating: The Science of Obesity looks to help us understand the causes for this as well as assessing the many diets out there.

Science made easy

I listened to Dr Yeo’s Audible series about Gut health and loved how he made it so relatable and interesting. He presents science with humour and language a lay person can understand.
Will be looking out did his latest book.
