About this listen

14 YEARS

5 PRIME MINISTERS

THE PARTY IS OVER

After decades in the hands of malevolent players and two years of disastrous leadership, the Conservative party stands at the edge of the abyss.

From the humiliation of Liz Truss’s 49-day premiership to the shameful, self-serving drift of Rishi Sunak’s time in office, Downfall is the story of a political party on the verge of extinction.

Picking up on the events that followed The Plot, Nadine Dorries draws on interviews with those in the room to expose what really went on behind the scenes. From group sex sessions organised via WhatsApp and held between late night votes in a certain office in Portcullis House to the King being stood up at the Privy Council and the reason why Rishi Sunak left the D-Day celebrations early, the accounts are raw, unvarnished and brutal. Everything is worse than it seems.

The next leader will hold the future of the party in his or her hands, and with outside forces resisting change, the challenge will be as enormous as it will be difficult. But the painful truth is that the party deserves to be where it is – and nothing can stay the same.

With unparalleled access to the people who were actually in the room and who will speak to Nadine with a frankness with which they would never speak to a journalist, Downfall promises to be THE political book of 2024.

Extremely insightful to the operation of the Conservative Party, I am sure it is with no great satisfaction that Nadine Dorries wrote the book.

Insightful

Generally an interesting storyline and a good follow up to The Plot, but a little too much of the ‘Rose Coloured Glasses’ around Boris Johnson for me. Boris was, is, could be brilliant……He is undoubtedly a charismatic character, but with some pretty major, (Iargely unreferenced), flaws too! However I suppose you know what you’re getting from a book written by Nadine on that subject!

Thank you.

Boris’s Fanzine?

A must read for anyone that thinks they have even a vague interest in British politics. I went in with a sceptical attitude (Dorries has been the subject of so much establishment attack) but this attitude was wholly unmerited. This book is eye opening, shining light on the contemptible people who really lead the Conservative Party from behind the curtain. Please, please, please read this book.

Enthralling and Astonishing

The more i listen, the more i hate Dominic Cummings and the nasty men in suits who really run the country.

A great behind the Tory scenes read

Brilliant listen, and a great insight into what went on inside number 10 and who ultimately pulls the strings

the personality of Kemi

Another great book by Nadine Dorries, her first book was brilliant and so was this one.

What an eye opener I understand a lot more about how politicians have pulled the wool over our eyes, a must read for anyone concerned how our governments have let us down.

What really happened behind the scenes!

Utterly boring girly gossip and slow repeat of others in the Commons. A very sad indictment on 80% of the last couple of decades of MP'S and their too powerful advisers and civil servants.

It in a very slow repeating way sadly confirms that there needs to be a massive "Trump" like shake up.

Utterly boring

Whilst the story on paper should be riveting, Nadia unfortunately repeated herself a lot and the book is full of what you would call ‘filler’

Very very boring

A series of summarised conversations from unknown “players”. An interesting story lacking in fact proof or support.

At no time does Dorries explain why she is only now aware of the stories given her role in government then and during this now period of government.

A poor excuse to sell books.

Complete fiction
