About this listen

A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook

Gryphonne IV is dead – one of the mightiest forge worlds in the arsenal of the Adeptus Mechanicus, succumbed to the relentless hunger of Hive Fleet Leviathan. Devoured. Lost.

The few magi that survive drift in idleness, robbed of purpose and direction. But there is one who rejects that fate.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It’s the gripping tale of an Explorator desperately seeking ancient technologies from humanity’s past as she races against time to restore one of the mightiest forge worlds in the Imperium.

THE STORY

Explorator Talin Sherax seeks ancient and miraculous technologies from humanity’s distant past. When she learns of a fabled relic that could restore all that has been lost, Sherax embarks on a journey, the outcome of which could change everything. Nothing will stand in her way… even if the quest brings her to the brink of heresy.

Looks like they are trying to set up a trilogy, as has a sort of incomplete ending.

Apart from some good bits on a death world death march I really struggled to care about the characters or their motivations. Mechanicus can be difficult to get right, but the recent Belisarius Cawl books show it can be done and done well.

Strong performance, short on plot and characters

Enjoyable listen, but that's all. Main character underdeveloped, I have found others more interesting (knight pilot!).

Like so many others

This book gives a lot of emotion to a faction which proclaims to have gotten rid of it. It is worth listening to just for the first few chapters. If you want a story of tragedy, politics and action this one is for you. Personally I love the mechanicus and can't wait for more books like this :)

I really like this book but two parts of it the war at the start and the ending feelt rushed. They could easily have added 3 more chapters to flesh these two instances out.

Great book with medioker ending
