About this listen

Jon Culshaw reads this classic Target novelisation featuring the Fourth Doctor, as played on TV by Tom Baker.

Landing on an apparently devastated planet, the Doctor and Romana make a horrifying discovery.
The planet is Skaro, home-world of the Daleks.

The Daleks are excavating in order to find and revive Davros, the scientific genius who first created them. They hope that he will give them the scientific superiority to break the deadlock with their Movellan enemies.

Faced once more with the deadly and seemingly indestructible Daleks, the Doctor's wits and strength are stretched to their very limits...

Jon Culshaw reads Terrance Dicks's 1979 novelisation of the BBC TV serial by Terry Nation, with Dalek voices provided by Nicholas Briggs.

Reading produced by Morrison Ellis. Sound design by David Darlington. Executive producer for BBC Audiobooks: Michael Stevens

Doctor Who and the Desteny of the Daleks.

The Tardis brings the mysterious traveller of time and space known as Doctor Who and his newly regenerated Time Lady Companion Romana, to a equally mysterious planet where The Doctor believes he has been before. The two find out that the Daleks are digging down into a long abandoned city and looking for something within. Before long, the doctor finds out it is Davros the Daleks are after and while Romana tries to help human slaves escape subjugation, the doctor incounters more new people who might be more than human.

Exterminate! Exterminate!

The original TV adventure of this classic story was aired in 1979 - and Terrance Dicks’s novelisation was published weeks later. This audio adaptation of the novel sees the welcome return of Jon Culshaw as Tom Baker’s Doctor. He nails the voice, as always, and does a great job of narration overall. Nicholas Briggs brings the dastardly Daleks to life. As for the story, it’s relatively straightforward, albeit with twists and turns. It’s set on the planet Skaro centuries after events of the 1975 serial Genesis of the Daleks. (There’s a good, Culshaw-narrated audio version of this, too). The Daleks arrive on rocky, desolate Skaro to find their creator Davros in suspended animation. They seek his guidance to help them beat the Movellan race (they’re also robots) with whom the Daleks are in a stalemated war. This is wonderfully entertaining - and required listening for Whovians.
