Summary

When you play with fire, you’re not the only one who gets burned…

Setting up an illegal casino in Soho was a dangerous move, and now Alfie Jennings’ business is under threat from a rival gang. The last thing he needs is for his teenage niece Chloe-Jane to turn up on his doorstep – and all the trouble that she brings with her.

When Chloe-Jane betrays Alfie’s trust, she finds herself back on the streets. But when she’s brutally kidnapped, Alfie soon realises the turf war with his rivals has turned personal. He will stop at nothing to protect Chloe-Jane. Because you don’t mess with family. And you certainly don’t mess with a Jennings…

A hard-hitting thriller perfect for fans of Martina Cole and Kimberley Chambers.

Different

I loved the 1st book but this was a little far fetched for me. Full of grit and the pace was good but the story itself was not a patch on the 1st book. I do hate it when they change readers as well, was not so keen on this reader.

a good gangland thriller with recurring characters from jacqui roses other books. the ending with the police did get a bit silly and far fetched which is why only 3 stars.

Truly awful.

What would have made Disobey better?

The storyline is OK but takes forever to get anywhere. It is written like a school essay where the writer is trying to reach a minimum number of words. There is so much unnecessary repetition. I have read and really enjoyed all of her other books. On this attempt, it is insulting to Martina Cole, to be compared with her.

What will your next listen be?

Apple Tree Yard

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator was ok

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Disobey?

The extremely far fetched scenes of gangsters running around London, brandishing guns, accompanied by police officers. Every story has an element of "far fetched" but this story went way beyond anything close to believable.

Any additional comments?

Such a shame. Other books were great.
