Auf der Flucht vor ihren Entführern verunglückt Kim in den Bergen der Vogesen. Dort wird sie von dem Elfen Zarek gefunden und gerettet. Der wortkarge Einsiedler ist heilfroh, dass er Kim die Existenz der zweiten Welt verheimlichen kann und eine Möglichkeit findet, sie schnell wieder in ihre Heimat nach Münster zurückzuschicken. Doch die Erleichterung, die Menschenfrau los zu sein und wieder allein mit seinem Wolf durch die Wälder zu streifen, währt nur kurz. Denn die Entführer bleiben Kim auf den Fersen und nirgendwo scheint sie sicherer zu sein als bei Zarek.
