Ein junger Mann trifft ein Mädchen auf der Kirchentreppe. Um die Zukunft mit seiner Bekanntschaft herauszufinden, lässt er ein Orakel mit einem Goldpokal bei einem befreundeten Alchemisten machen. Als ihr aufsteigendes Bild als Rose verwelkt und das Mädchen dann bei der Vorbeifahrt eine Rose verliert, sieht er das als schlechtes Zeichen. Kommt es trotzdem zur Hochzeit?

Johann Ludwig Tieck (1773-1853) war ein deutscher Schriftsteller, Dichter und Übersetzer der Romantik. Die Erzählung Der Pokal erschien erstmals in der Sammlung Phantasus im Jahr 1812.
