About this listen
It’s the end of the road, and no one is safe.
After navigating a treacherous country torn apart by an EMP, Colby Riker struggles to adjust to the harsh existence back in Humboldt. When faced with a dangerous decision that could destroy his family and the community for good, he must face the ghosts of his past if any of them are to make it out alive.
Will anyone survive?
As mounting pressure from a series of deadly attacks outside their town causes the residents of Eureka to scramble for answers and protection, Sheriff Dan Wilder discovers the threat might be closer to home than he thought.
The truth will be horrifying.
Colby made it out of LA. He survived the journey home. He’ll risk his life to save his community. But will the truth of the event 10 years ago cause him to run again or stand shoulder-to-shoulder with family?
Defend the Homestead is the third and final explosive book in A Powerless World saga. This pause-resisting, post-apocalyptic EMP thriller series is about two ordinary, feuding families fighting for survival in a world gone dark.
©2021 Jack Hunt (P)2021 Jack HuntThe rivalry between the Riker's and the Strickland's is still going strong but with a new threat in town can the two families out the differences aside? The militia is backing up the sheriff as he tries to keep the piece in his town after an emp pulse send the whole country back in to the stone age, especially between two families who have been at war with each as far back as anyone can remember. But the militia seem to have there own a gender or at least a different idea of his things should be run, taking everybody's gun away if they want help is only the first step. The second is to hang a native American after a number of families are found dead and scalped. Dan, the sheriff, needs help but is Colby the man to do it? Having friends in the surrounding tribes is a plus, so is the fact that he use to be a police officer but having turned his back on his family for so long can he get his family to listen and end a life time feud?
I liked the narrator. He does a good job with all the voices needed to bring this story to life and I am glad the author went with the same narrator throughout the series.

The world has become hostile, danger levels continue to increase. Feuds with other clusters of survivors have become outright deadly, never knowing who will make it through the subsequent encounter. In Defend the Homestead, the tensions between the Rikers and Stricklands grow. As resources become scarce, groups such as the militia headed by Captain Evans, the primary antagonist, create further conflict, leading to war. The question is, can the Rikers and Stricklands set their strife aside and stand together against the real villain, Captain Evans.
Miles Meili's narration was spot on, emulating the right amount of emotion and energy. I found Meili gave each character the right tone, reflecting the characters' personalities. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed Defend the Homestead, proving excellent anticipation and excitement. Jack Hunt did not fail to deliver – the series is well written and developed fully. I'm definitely recommending the "A Powerless World" series.
