About this listen

A Uriel Ventris audiobook.

Exiled Ultramarines Uriel Ventris and Pasanius venture into the heart of the Iron Warriors’ fortress-world in search of atonement – but will they find anything but horror and death?

Listen to It Because

Explore the Iron Warriors' fortress world in the Eye of Terror through the eyes of exiled Ultramarines Uriel Ventris and Pasanius. Dark technology and even darker magic combine, and Ventris meets an enemy who'll haunt him for a long time to come.

The Story

Exiled from the Ultramarines Chapter by Marneus Calgar, Captain Uriel Ventris ventures deep into the dreaded Eye of Terror to atone for his disgrace. There, Uriel must unleash the Emperor's vengeance upon the followers of the Dark Gods and bring His divine light to this area of darkness. But a far more terrible foe dwells within these worlds of insanity: the ancient Chaos Space Marine Legions. With dishonour behind him and certain death ahead, Uriel must gather every ounce of courage if he is to survive and regain his honour!

Written by Graham McNeill. Narrated by Bruce Mackinnon.

Not only was the story better but the narrator had improved and this was very good, I like the Ventris books but they can be a bit too cliched, bringing in Daemons and Heretic Astartes took the emphasis off uriel and made the book a lot more interesting

Best Ventris book so far

true horror

The great part about this book is the awful things the traitors are up to. But I struggle to recommend it because our protagonists are hard to engage with, feeling more like propaganda caricatures than people. Not to say they don't have some great character moments but they lack a bit of groundedness

Grimdark premise weighed down by flat characters

The previous Ventris books were good but fairly tame. This one is full on from beginning to end. The pace is fevered and always growing. The baddies are gigantically appalling. The horror is real. The whole thing isa savage trip to hell. Very enjoyable. Well worth a listen.

This was my favourite of the first three Uriel Ventris books , would recommend this to anyone who enjoys dark 40k audiobooks, and who enjoys renegade space marines. It is a unique story with great characters, particularly the main villain. I was never particularly interested in the Ultramarine books because I thought they would be bland, generic heroes, which I thought the first two books were a little bit, but this was throughly enjoyable.

Loved the story, but a lot of editing issues.. Vanz was given an accent to start off with, but this stopped half way through. Chapter 16 had so many pauses and poor editing breaks that it became distracting. It got better for the remainder of the book

Great story, poor editing

Why does Pasanius sound like hobbit? This is the first audiobook I’ve not finished because of the poor quality of voices. I’ll read the hard copy to fully enjoy

It’s grim and dark. The story is well constructed. It accurately depicts Iron Warriors. It was refreshing to not just see cookie cutter characters. Instead they all have different motivations.

Depicts the Iron Warriors well
