Summary

The first book in Amanda Scott’s acclaimed Dangerous series journeys from the battlefields of Waterloo to the ballrooms and boudoirs of London, where a deadly deception unfolds....

Engaged by proxy to a man she’s never met, Lady Daintry Tarrant is dismayed when the war hero returns, introducing himself as her fiancé, Lord Penthorpe. She cherishes her independence and has turned away many suitors, but this one she must marry. Penthorpe is completely captivated by Lady Daintry - but he’s not who he claims to be.

Penthorpe and Lord Gideon Deverill fought together at the battle of Waterloo, and when Penthorpe fell, Gideon assumed his identity in order to see the beautiful Lady Daintry. Gideon knows there’s bad blood between Lady Daintry’s family and his own, but he’s smitten with Daintry and determined to reunite the bitterly feuding clans. When a ghost from Gideon’s past appears, he could lose everything - including Daintry’s love.

Keep going

It’s not until about halfway the story gets interesting. So keep going it is worth it in the end.
Nothing special but a good listen for dog walking, housework that sort of thing as it doesn’t require too much attention but will cure boredom.

Triggering. Domestic abuse. Sexual assault

This story should have had a warning. I had no idea the above would be part of the story and would not have selected it.

Difficult to follow story

Was all set to enjoy this series having enjoyed Amanda Scott's Highland Series but it was difficult to follow at the start due to the narrator and the very similar names of both the hero and the heroine. The narrator spoke in just one gone for all females and another one for the men. The narration did seem to get better towards the end of the recording but thAt maybe because I gotten used to the drolling voice! The story was different as you don't usually have domestic violence with hints of incest in a romance! A lot information on how powerless women were inside marriage which reflected situation at that time. Having struggled through the story, it all worked out at the end setting things up for the following books.

Having now re-listened to this book, the narrator did a better job than I first thought, she seemed to have more inflection and her voice was less irritating than first listen. Upgraded Performance from 1 to 3
