Summary

Sharp-suited sharpies, slick-talking slicksters, high-rolling gamblers, and habitués of the racetrack - they're all here, and it's all in fun! Straight from the imagination of the legendary Broadway raconteur Damon Runyon, here is another rollicking collection of stories about bets and debts, lovers and losers, con men and wise guys.

Gerald Mohr, Eve Arden, William Conrad, Joseph Kearns, Alan Reed, Parley Baer, Willard Waterman, Frances Robinson, and more play guys and dolls who speak only in the present tense (and without contractions). And radio favorite John Brown stars as Broadway, a teller of tales (who is no snitch).

Episodes include: Little Miss Marker - Program 2; Romance in the Roaring Forties - Program 3; The Lemon Drop Kid - Program 4; A Nice Price - Program 5; Princess O'Hara - Program 8; Breach of Promise - Program 10; Dancing Dan's Christmas - Program 11; Pick the Winner - Program 12; Hold 'em Yale - Program 13; The Brain Goes Home - Program 14; Old Em's Kentucky Home - Program 16; Leopard Spots - Program 18; All Horse Players Die Broke - Program 19; A Piece of Pie - Program 21; Barbecue - Program 22; Lonely Heart - Program 23.

Great production marred by frequent musical breaks

Great to hear these wonderful characters brought to life, but halfway through the second story I'm not sure if I can cope with many more interruptions - big band fanfares and "We'll be right back"s, presumably heralding adverts and returns to narrative in the original broadcasts. Surely these could be edited out for the audiobook?
