About this listen

The unputdownable, brilliant new novel from the Queen of Romcom.

Bel’s joined the tiny Manchester office of a national paper from her indie podcast.

Thirty-something Connor is going to back to the start as the new intern.

The latest office news? They can’t stand each other.

So of course Bel bumps into Connor when she’s working undercover on the biggest scoop of her career. And of course she’s forced to improvise, pretending they’re a couple. A couple deeply in love.

Two rivals. One fake romance. The headline writes itself…

This is everything you’d expect from a novel from this author. Strong writing, each sentence dense with detail, sympathetic characters, lots of humour and plenty of poignant moments. What spoiled this for me was the narration which seemed unskilled and slapdash and certainly did not do justice at all to the quality of the writing. So many ‘gems’ were lost as the reader rushed over them, and I felt the writer deserved a narrator who would put as much care into performing it as she put into writing it.

Rich writing, poor narration

I love Mhairi Mcfarlane's books and this was no exception, great characters, story and hilarious one liners that nearly made me crash my car whilst listening on the way to work! I liked the presentation although a couple of the characters had very harsh voices and this was a bit hard to listen to sometimes! Overall highly recommend

Another winner!
