Summary

To battle her anxiety, Audrey Warren spends conventions in the shelter of her uncle’s failing comic booth, but once she’s convinced to give cosplay a try, everything changes. Dressing as Sailor Moon gives her confidence, and she rocks the con floor with moon prism power...that is, until a group of elitist geek girls corner her and set off a panic attack.

Fellow cosplayer Kyle Porter comes to her rescue! However, it soon turns out her savior is the one in need of saving. Kyle’s dad puts the D in dysfunction when he yanks Kyle into his truck and drives away. Audrey must summon real courage to both save her uncle’s store and rescue her dude in distress - all with only 27 bucks in the bank.

Thoroughly enjoyable and brilliantly narrated.

Is it wrong that I now want to go to a convention? Lol. I really enjoyed this story, though someone needs to slap Kyle's dad up the side of the head, boy did that man make me mad! I loved the setting and the idea and the characters are really great. I loved all the references throughout. Morgan's Hadley adds so much to the story with her narration. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.

Good YA story

I thought this was a good story appropriate for a pre-teen/young teen audience. Most characters were about 16 or 17 years old. There wasn't anything in the story that I would have been uncomfortable with my 9 year old hearing, however I would have followed it up with a conversation about how I would have liked her to act in an unfair situation. The characters often didn't set an example I would want her to emulate, but I do think they grew and matured over the course of the story. Without giving any spoilers, it wasn't any worse than what you see in a lot of family movies and I'd put it in the category of lying to parents/sneaking out/bad choices that a lot of kids make. There were a couple words I wouldn't want her to use, but nothing that you couldn't hear on live tv/radio.

High school hijinks

This is a book following high school students who are interested in cosplay and much of the book took place in different cosplay conventions. Audrey meets Kyle and they find kindred spirits in each other. Through the book, we follow them as their relationship grows (friendship and then growing to an awkwardly sweet romance). Within their relationship growing, Audrey has to figure out a way to help save her workplace and to let her friend, who has a crush on her, gently down. Boy, high school has really gotten complicated! It was fun to hear more about these cosplay conventions and this book makes me want to go to one :D

Morgane Hadley did a great job actually playing multiple characters and she sounds perfect even for HS students. I enjoyed listening to her rendition of the story. I do think it would have been great to have a male narrator for Kyle POV but still, it was a fun time.
