Summary

shame it was so short. would have like the story to unfold more. does highlight the restrictive culture of Japan.

Good
Started out great but got repetitive and a little boring towards the end. Had some elements of good political commentary and societal expectations about love and careers but they became overplayed by the end.

Excellent and Relatable story
Very funny and healing. The reading was a bit fast for me so I slowed it down a tiny bit and then it was perfect.

Convenience store woman
I really enjoyed this audio book. the narration was brilliant and the plot was brilliant. I will definitely be reading more of Sakaya Murata's books.

Very short but fascinating read
I did really like the book, it's well performed and a quite sad but funny story. Vibes of "Flowers for Algernon". It is a tough sell at one credit for a book that's just over 3 hours long though but it's a must if you are interested in Japanese culture.

Worth a listen...
Its a short quick listen which helps.
It got quite repetitive and I'm not sure if the translation to English was the cause of this.
All in all a good book that questions, what is normal?
I needed more for Keiko but maybe the notion of more is merely a societal way of conforming.

for all outsiders. a true Testament of faith in oneself and the right to have nobody else force their 'normal' on another person. deeply insightful, beautifully written, moving and hilarious

captivating and unusual!
I enjoyed the references to calm Japanese convenience stores in this book! The main character stands out as well written and researched. Some parts are hard to read, listening to the verbal abuse the character is subjected to. very raw and real! A really clever critical view of Japanese societal expectations.
