About this listen

RITA Award Winner, Romantic Suspense, 2015

The incomparable J. D. Robb presents the latest moving and suspenseful novel in the number-one New York Times best-selling Eve Dallas series.

In a decrepit and long-empty New York building, a man begins the demolition process by swinging a sledgehammer into a wall. When the dust clears, he finds two skeletons wrapped in plastic behind it. The man is Lieutenant Eve Dallas’s billionaire husband, Roarke, and he summons her immediately. His latest real estate project is going to be on hold for a while, because by the time Eve and her crew are finished searching the premises, there are 12 murders to be solved.

After a little digging reveals that the place housed a makeshift shelter for troubled and homeless teenagers back in the mid-2040s, Eve tracks down the people who worked there. Between their recollections and the brilliant work of the force’s new forensic anthropologist, Eve begins to put names and faces to the skeletal remains. They are all girls. A tattooed tough teenager who dealt in illegal drugs. The runaway daughter of a pair of well-to-do doctors. They all had their stories. And they all lost their chance for a better life.

Everyone has something to hide. And when Eve discovers a stunning connection between the victims and someone she knows, she is even more driven to reveal the secrets of the place that was called The Sanctuary - and to find the evil concealed in one human heart.

2023 AUDIBLE REVIEW
Nice having a bit of Christmas vibe in this but so, so sad about all those lost young lives. Yes, some were never going to turn themselves around but some were innocent and will be missed by family.
Great twist with Mavis. Sad and hard to listen to Mavis tell her past horror story. Hearing Mavis’s story in audible is much more poignant when spoken, than when reading.
But also so uplifting with An Didean (The Refuge) being started. More poignant with what happens.
Eve’s hard-line view of things shows itself again in regards to Sebastion.
The ending with the killer, though correct due to the circumstances, makes you feel that justice is not always fair.
BOOK REVIEW
No hectic chasing of a mad killer/bomber/maniac this time, just a lot of police work needs to be done, trying to name 12 young girls found deceased in a building Roarke has just bought.
Extremely sad right till the end but I loved the name Eve and Roarke came up with for the only unnamed victim.
Lots of fun times with some of our main gang, a bit of sweetness with Dennis Mira and some harsh background truths from her youth are told to us by Mavis.
Eve really is almost gentle in her actions in this one and has some quality home time with Roarke.
She does get one good tussle in with an over eager security idiot.
I have owned most of these books in paperback for years but now have them all in eBook format, so I am rereading this series once more in order, updating and replacing missing reviews.
Even knowing what is in the future, it is absolutely no hardship to reread this series and I am really enjoying how all the characters are growing and changing.

Sad but uplifting.

Where does Concealed in Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have nearly all in Death books, hard copy and audio but this was not even close to one of her best. In fact it is the bottom of all the audiobooks I have listened to. I will continue to buy and listen to JD Robb though.

Would you ever listen to anything by J. D. Robb again?

Absolutely

Which scene did you most enjoy?

They were all pretty much the same.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

I would certainly recommend virtually all of JD Robb books.

I enjoyed this so much that I plan to read/listen to many more from this author. Especially enjoyed the humour Peabody brought to the narration...

Another great story

Always intriguing and if you like sexy bits you will not be disappointed. I can't say that they are essential to me but the characters are great and the books are well read and exciting.

Another JD Robb or Norah Roberts book

generally good storyline, but a lot of untied threads at end, people who'd been promised updates, answers etc

another rushed ending

With a lot on forensic archaeology, I felt the characters within the story, were often too selfish and arrogant. But on a subject level, worth a listen.

Pretty average!
