Summary
Trapped at a desk job, Charlie Muffin uncovers a deadly KGB plot
Charlie Muffin is too good an agent to be working a desk, but after a bust-up with his new director, he has been relegated to clerk work. Among the heaps of papers, though, Charlie stumbles upon the clues to a last-gasp plot from the collapsing Soviet Union. The signs point to a new Soviet Star Wars system - and to the involvement of a British traitor.
Or do they? After all, the KGB wants one more chance to eliminate their old adversary Charlie. When the agency discovers his involvement, it sets a nasty trap. As the Soviet regime crumbles, it could take Charlie down with it.

very enjoyable and different
A divergence from the usual Muffin tale but he gets into as much trouble. Good to read that "come uppances" are duly doled out.

Good story.
Good story but i think the soviet builders would have seen the problem with the space craft whilst building it.

really really addictive
wonderful reading of a great story makes this series a joy to listen to . Charlie is not a very nice man but you want him with rather than against you . The characters are really well defined and the twists can be unpredictable. Never disappointed.

Pronunciation
I enjoy these books but it is unforgiveable that they are allowing Napolean Ryan to persist in his mispronunciation of Islay and Grosvenor in every book. Must be deliberate on some level

2B or not 2B ?
This series ramps up with the East v West tension. Fantastic narration and dramatization adding bucket loads to the pace, plot and suspense. Love how the author has kept Charlie constant in characterization and manner, matched by how he is performed. Red herrings abound in possibly the most complicated, yet enjoyable plot I've ever encountered in one book. The codes and spy-craft are no match for Charlie.
Anyone who has enjoyed Le Carre will enjoy these tales. VERY ENJOYABLE

One of the weaker entries in the series.
A very exposition-heavy plot in which Charlie is frequently missing; I enjoyed it less than the previous books. But it still has its excitements,, and one utterly gripping chapter when Charlie brilliantly sees off an old foe or two... The usual pompous and somewhat slipshod read, unfortunately -- with a producer and actor both unaware of the correct pronunciation of some quite basic words in English, let alone Russian ones...
