Summary

The sequel to one of those most popular zombies of all time in a new, uncut, author's preferred edition!

In this sequel to The Rising, cities are overrun with legions of the undead, intent on destroying what's left of the living. Trapped inside a fortified skyscraper, a handful of survivors prepare to make their last stand against an unstoppable, merciless enemy. With every hour their chances diminish and their numbers dwindle, while the ranks of the dead continue to rise. Because sooner or later, everything dies. And then it comes back, ready to kill.

A very wild ride!

I really enjoyed both books (gory and thrilling) but the author cannot write dialogue. The reader was fantastic. A few dodgy voices for characters of colour but the reader did a good job.

Very, very dark

Picks up from where "The Rising" finished, so you need to have read that first.

This is great. It's really dark; the world is in the grip of a zombie apocalypse and the number of survivors is shrinking by the minute. The zombies talk of taking over other worlds, and there are references to The Creator, suggesting that the zombie uprising itself is a reaction against God. Characters come, make themselves familiar and part of the plot, then go. Given the ending there doesn't seem to be any scope for any further books in this series. Enjoy it; this one really is worth your time.

City of the Demons

Book 2 starts off just where book 1 finishes, with Jim going into the house to find out if his son Danny is still alive, and Franky and Martin running from a big group of zombies. What I liked about this series is the fact that these are not typical slow walking mindless zombies. They are inhabited by intelligent demons who are able to strategise, trick, outwit, and sabotage humans in order to take over their bodies. They can also inhabit all manner of creatures too, and the combination of both increase the horror factor, because they are twice as hard to fight than the 'give me brains' variety. There was also an interesting charchter who had a God complex and an evil doctor who did unspeakable things, which definitely grossed me out.

I thought City of the Dead was better than the original because there is a lot more character development, I liked all of the main characters, and although the zombies had a clear course of action which for the most part led the story (and was therefore predictable), it was well written and had a strong plot.

I received this book for free and voluntarily left this review.

a good sequel

Still quite enjoyable, though i felt it became a bit repetitive. The story didn't bring anything new, just zombies attacking and people fighting them off - repeat . But it did it in a fun way - and with a good serving of depravity.
The ending was unexpected for me, left me shocked for a while.
