About this listen

THE NUMBER ONE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE CITY GIRL SERIES

‘Warm, relatable and funny’ Marian Keyes

'One of Scanlan's great strengths is her gift for writing fully rounded characters, and this is Scanlan at her very best' Irish Independent

The City Girls are back! And as City Girl, Devlin Delaney’s iconic gym and spa, prepares to mark a big anniversary, Devlin and her best friends Caroline and Maggie are looking forward to a fabulous party where they can all put their problems behind them and celebrate. Devlin’s past has returned to haunt her, with a shocking revelation. But she’s strong and her beloved Luke has her back.  Caroline is facing up to issues she’s long suppressed, with the help of a man who’s becoming more than a friend. Will happiness finally be hers? Maggie’s family is driving her mad. Her ex, Terry, and their daughter don’t get on, and she’s made an alarming discovery about her elderly mother’s financial affairs. She wants to run far, away. Sparks are going to fly, and some people are going to get a lot more than they bargained for!

Once a City Girl, a City Girl Forever. Nothing will stop their celebration . . . or will it?

‘It felt like I’d just bumped into such great old friends… ones I haven’t seen since school and have missed SO much, and am desperately wanting to know everything that’s happened to them… I was in book heaven’ Caroline Grace-Cassidy

'Full of messy, complex family drama, laced with wisdom, laughter and poignancy. What a joy!' Carmel Harrington

Beautiful story and shows what true friendship can do. Beautifully written story and Caroline Lennon narrated so well as per usual

Friendship

I had read the 3 previous books some time ago as well as all other Patricia Scanlan books, so was excited about this one.

I did enjoy it overall and as always, Caroline Lennon was fabulous but I did find that for me, at least, there were too many references to the pandemic - clearly it happened but 5 years on, many of us are trying to not be reminded of it and yet it was mentioned so many many times that I found this kept pulling my mind back to the hardship and difficulties of those times whilst trying to enjoy some fiction and forget about everyday life.

Just my thoughts.

Glad I listened

Having read all the City books over the years, it was a delight to find this last chapter in the stories of Devlin, Maggie & Caroline.
It feels like I’ve “grown up” with the earlier books so I devoured this & it truly was like re-visiting old friends.
I highly recommend anyone stumbling across this to take the time to read all the books in order & I envy you the treat in store.

A Perfect Closing Chapter
