 Jack's a retired ex-cop from New York, seeking the simple life in Cherringham. Sarah's a Web designer who's moved back to the village find herself. But their lives are anything but quiet as the two team up to solve Cherringham's criminal mysteries.

Here Jack and Sarah investigate a suicide in the River Thames - or was it murder? They investigate an "accidental" fire with deadly consequences, and they nab the culprit behind the Rotary Club choir poisoning.

Cherringham is a series à la Charles Dickens, with a new mystery thriller released each month. Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick listen for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

For fans of Agatha Christie's "Miss Marple series", Lilian Jackson Braun's "The Cat Who series", Caroline Graham's "Midsomer Murders", and the American TV series "Murder She Wrote", starring Angela Lansbury.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham.

Cherringham - A Cosy Crime Series Compilation which consists of the first three books of this series. Thoroughly enjoyable just our UK Enid Blyton’s Famous Five & Secret Seven series except these are for grownups with no Timmy the dog and nothing too horrific. Stories with a start, middle and ending. Very nice for a change and I especially liked ‘the Yank’ as he adds a quirk of humour to them. I will be getting the next compilation.

These are wonderful easy listening, well read stories that won't necessarily test the little great cells but they're a good listen!!

Easy 'Sunday night' crime stories!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would. It is set of easy, short- ish crime stories set in Cotswold (seriously, considering all the murders happening there, it must be dangerous place to live). It is lay back, not too dramatic and with likeable characters.

Which character – as performed by Neil Dudgeon – was your favourite?

One of those lucky narrators who can do female characters without hurting one's ears. Hard to say who would be favourite, but I do appreciate the fact that I do not want to strangle the female characters just for the voice given them.

Any additional comments?

This is not very action thrilling series. It is good old fashion who done it English style (+ an American ex-cop). You get all your get togethers for reveal too. Really enjoyed it!

Easy and enjoyable story lines!

The initial attraction of first Cherringham compilation was that the individual episodes/stories were only 2 to 3 hours long. Just long enough for a car journey or a winters afternoon by the fire, The problem with full blown novels being that sometimes I am unable to listen again for some time and consequently I can never remember all the characters or exactly where Ive reached in the story. After reading reviews and the resume of the first Cherringham compilation I thought i would give it a try. I was really pleasantly surprised. Although relatively short the 3 individual stories were intriguing and as they progressed the characters became more attractive and believable. The narration by Neil Dudgeon was totally brilliant... so much so that I have since acquired every Cherringham audio book published to date which I assume must qualify me as an addict. I can’t recommend them highly enough. For anyone wanting a good yarn, not overly taxing not too long and with some delightfully unexpected twists they make ideal listening.

I like this and the rest of the series as bedtime listening before drifting to sleep. Neil Dudgeon's warm voice is well suited to the mood and setting, even if his New York accent doesn't match the sound I'd expect for a New York cop. Only irritant is the neither Jack nor Sarah can resist asking leading questions. Jack at least should know better.

I wanted to enjoy these stories as I get bored with the endless blood and guts of most modern detective stories, but even as a contrast the pace and storytelling was slow.

The conundrums are reasonably varied and the characters not too stereotypical but the denouements were too much ‘rabbits out of hats’ for me.

The narration was reasonable but perhaps Mr Dudgeon overplayed the ‘cosy’ as his delivery was almost comatose.

Overall a pleasant but not gripping experience.
