About this listen
If anyone can tell the difference between monsters and humans, it's Dahlia Nite. For nearly a century, she's hunted one to protect the other. Safeguarding humanity from the creatures that slip through the torn veil between the worlds. Creatures like her.
But the lines are blurring. As people begin mutating and combusting on the streets, Dahlia realizes a strange affliction has descended upon Sentinel City. The mysterious ailment strikes all walks of life, from the posh high-end nightclub district to the homeless community. Its victims, driven to random acts of savagery, are drawing attention too fast to cover up.
Assigned to the case, Dahlia and her human partner Detective Alex Creed investigate the deaths. But all they have are questions, bodies, and a public on the verge of panic. Working behind the scenes with her self-appointed sidekick Casey Evans, Dahlia struggles to discover what, or who, is behind the alarming transformations.
As the violence spreads and the mystery unfolds, she wonders: Are the victims still human? Were they ever?
Chain Reaction is the second book in the Nite Fire series.

4 Stars!!!!
How do you make a book even better? Simple you create the audio version. I love being able to be able to listen to my favorite books and keep up with my tasks. This is a action packed story and kept my attention. The characters seem to jump right out of the phone and right into my vivid imagination.
I have also read this author so this is a good way to continue my enjoyment of her books. I love this series as it is a nice balance of supernatural and intrigue. I really like how the author brings her book to a new life with a great narrator. I will definitely be getting more.
A must listen!!!!

I was so glad to find it is the same person narration the story too. The enthusiasm and excitement that she evokes with her narration is just amazing. I definitely think I enjoyed it even more thanks to that. I love the mix of supernatural and natural in this series, it has been done in such a believable way. This is a brilliant series and I cannot wait for the next book.
A fantastic book

I am loving this series; the story, the worlds, the characters are all amazing. Not to mention the narrator is perfect for the story and if this is ever brought to screen (and it should be), I won't accept anyone else's voice as Dahlia Nite.

What a fun urban fantasy! I quite enjoyed Book 1 and continued to enjoy the series with Book 2. Dahlia Nite is a wonderfully layered character, sometimes serious, sometimes snarky, sometimes tender, sometimes murderous. I’d enjoy hanging out with her in real life.
For this story, Dahlia is hunting elusive prey. At first, it’s really not clear what is going on but spontaneously combusting humans is just not normal. Plus it’s messy and attacks the wrong kind of attention. Dahlia, being a cleaner of sorts, needs to figure this out quick before some human authorities catch wind of the supernatural elements to these deaths.
I really like her sidekick Casey Evans. He’s supportive and funny and kind of like her little brother. Plus he’s a cop and isn’t a newbie to weapons and violence. Though this particular case will test his limits and loyalty. How much are you willing to cover up even if it means keeping many humans safe?
Then there’s Alex Creed. I really like this character because he’s a little broken yet doesn’t wallow in it. In fact, he just accepts it, shrugs, and carries on. I can see how the events of this story will put him and Dahlia at odds later. I really want things to work out well for both of them, but I fear the series might not allow that (and then just intrigues me to read on).
Having a perfect mix of action, reflection, flirtation, weapons, boot stomping, arson, and catching bad guys, this is a worthy addition to the urban fantasy genre. 5/5 stars.
The Narration: Cassandra King is a delight to listen to. I feel she channels Dahlia while narrating this book. I also love her voice for Alex Creed, being a bit gravelly and suspicious of the goodness in those around him. Sometimes, I felt the male character voices could use a bit more masculinity. Like sidekick Evans sometimes sounds more like his sister Marnie. Then there’s this rich bloke Bastian Rand with the educated snotty accent and sometimes he sounds like a man and sometimes he sounds like an older woman. However, over all the performance was really good. All the characters had distinct voices and the ladies were all well performed. The pacing was perfect and there were no technical issues with the recording. 4.5/5 stars.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by C.L. Schneider. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Dahlia Nite a Dragon shifter that has assigned herself the job of protecting humans from creatures that come from other worlds is once again teamed up with Detective Alex Creed when people in a nightclub and on the streets start mutating before they combust leaving no trace of what happened. The only clue is the word crystalist half whispered before another victim is burn beyond a crisp. Is it a new drug? But where did it come from? Who made it and more importantly how can they stop it? Because when a friend of Dahlia's starts to show signs of going through the transformation it gets very person and time is running out for everyone.
I really like the narrator. She has to do a wide range of voices for this book and even some accents but with her narrating the hours just flew by.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
