Summary
Carnage is a Gargoyle. He's also volatile, dangerous, unpredictable, and lonely. One evening minding his own business at the edge of the sanctuary he calls home, he spies a female. A human female, and she's running headlong into his swamps, with no regard for her own safety. Then he sees the reason; three men, and they're hot on her trail, torches in hand, hell bent on catching her before she can get away.
He watches as they get closer and closer to her, easily following her trail. Carnage makes a snap decision that changes both their lives forever; he drops out of a tree right behind her, slaps one clawed hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming, wraps her in his huge arms and goes right back to the treetops. He shelters her while the men traverse the ground below, unable to determine why her trail disappeared.
Carnage admires this little female - she was brave to run into the swamps alone. There are many creatures lying in wait for just such a meal. But she no longer has to worry about that, because now she's his. He only hopes that she doesn't fear him too much once she gets a good look at his blue-grey skin, his fangs, and his horns. Because regardless of what she thinks, or the rules of his community - he's not giving her up.

Carnage....♥︎
I do have a secret obsession when it comes to books like this and this book was well worth the listen.... It is different from your every day paranormal/fantasy book which was a nice surprise.. I have now listened to the first and second book in this series and can't wait for the next one...xx

Sweet story narrated in hyper speed
This is a really sweet story but the narrator is trying to win a speed read race.
I recommend 0,9x listening speed.

short but enjoyable
loved this sweet story. Certainly held my interest. will have to wait for credits to get the others but this was included in my subscription.
I agree with other reviews that the speed was a bit fast but I listened at .95 and that was fine for me. I found .90 to slow but once I adjusted the speed it was fine. Narrator is clear throughout and comes across with the emotions well.

Love the story
Love this story, but I found it very difficult to listen to the narrator. If it wasn’t, because the book was free, I would have returned it. In more than one occasion, I thought of giving up, but I really like this story, so I persevere to the end with difficulty.

Love, love, love this book!
I am so happy about everything in this book. Awesome worldbuilding, awesome storytelling and awesome mythology. Ok, the myth part comes first. Oh, and great narrator. Wish there were more than two of this series on audio. Would buy them all. Will now convince my family to leave me alone while I listen to the second book.

There was some parts that honestly could have been left out, but the book overall was very good.

Cuddly Monsters
This book was a weird mix of sinister horror elements and sunshine & rainbows. A lot of the monsters are practically described as evil incarnate, but then they just end up being as soft and cuddly as the characters from Monsters Inc. For the most part I liked the book, but I had issue with the author overemphasizing how dangerous and evil the monsters are, then totally transforming them into nice, friendly 'people'. I thought the Vampire that ate sandwiches, loves to bake cakes, didn't have to hide from the Sun or sleep during the day, and only occasionally drank blood when he felt like it was taking it a bit too far out of the context for a Vampire. As well as the Reaper type character who eats souls and whom everyone is afraid of, but then acts like your jolly uncle Tom who likes to play with the grandkids. The author takes them from one extreme to another very quickly and it's not very believable. I would have preferred if the author had kept it more sinister and not so cute. However, there was enough content in there for me to enjoy the book.
