About this listen

In a future plagued with natural disasters, criminals known as “scavs” raid damaged cities. Their most important rule: don’t help the survivors.

Bear, a twenty-nine-year-old engineer, breaks that rule when he takes Salix, a Native American college student, back to his scav team’s flying ship for medical treatment. Captain Baxter allows her to board but will not let her leave.

Salix hopes to escape, but Baxter’s growing obsession with her makes that impossible. As the situation grows tense, a tsunami in Portugal prompts a scav raid. During that raid, Bear discovers blueprints for a device that could change the world. When it becomes clear that Salix’s life is in danger, Bear flees with her, along with the blueprints, but Baxter follows, and he is more dangerous than either of them realize.

Set in an all-too-believable future, where catastrophic events can bring rich rewards to some, the narrator guides us from chapter to exciting chapter and keeps us coming back for more.

The overall story is good, I enjoyed the plot and some of the characters were really interesting. The narration wasn’t poor, it just wasn’t to my liking.

The first chapters were a bit confusing as it was different characters but then made sense,
It’s a bit like storm chasing but more like disaster chasing with ships that sail and fly.
Very big characters good and some scary but a little love too.

This is not my normal genre, but I was utterly gripped from start to finish. The characters have depth and appeal and I found myself rooting for the ‘bad guy’! Just enough tension to keep me hooked and desperate to listen to just a bit more! I hope there is more of Sallix and Bear.

Gripped, from start to finish!

This story is basically about pirates who steal from people during tsunami's. Main character Bear is a long suffering past drug addict trying to live a better life away from drugs, despite being a criminal. Salix is a waitress that accidentally gets brought onboard the pirate ship when Bear can't bare to leave her severely injured in the tsunami debris. Throughout the book there is a suggestion that they are romantic love interests but it never really materializes until the last minute. There's a strange indication that the Captain Baxter will SA Salix (which seems to come out of the blue), but there is an elaborate campaign by several members of the crew to keep the captain away from her. But in reality, the captain is described as being a ruthless violent villain who does whatever he wants, so it is unlikely their antics would actually stop him taking what he wants.

I found the storyline to be quite disjointed with several plot holes. It was also a little annoying that the narrator couldn't pronounce Cheshire.
