Summary

An Astra Militarum novel

Sent to the capital world of Potence, Sergeant Minka Lesk and the Cadian 101st discover that though Cadia may have fallen, their duty continues.

Listen to it because:

It's the follow-up to Cadia Stands and continues the journey of Minka Lesk and her warriors as they seek revenge against the Imperium's enemies for the loss of their world.

The story:

For 10,000 years, Cadia stood as a bastion against the daemonic tide spewing forth from the Eye of Terror. But now the Fortress World lies in ruins, its armies decimated in the wake of Abaddon the Despoiler and his Thirteenth Black Crusade.

Those who survived, though haunted by the loss of their beloved homeworld, remain bloodied and unbarred, fighting ruthlessly in the Emperor’s name. Amongst them is the indomitable Sergeant Minka Lesk. Sent to the capital world of Potence, Lesk and the Cadian 101st company soon discover that a rot runs through the very heart of the seemingly peaceful world.

Lesk knows she must excise this taint of Chaos, for it is not only her life and those of her company at stake but also the honour of Cadia itself.

Written by Justin D Hill. Narrated by Colleen Prendergast.

Awful narrative

A great story spoiled by very bad narrative. I've heard male narrators voice act children and women brilliantly, this however just merges into one awful indistinguishable mess.
Not impressed

Brilliant

An exciting continuation from Cadia Stands. Not as strong as the first book and I personally preferred the original narrator. But Colleen Prendergast still makes an EXCELLENT performance so don’t let that put you off.

I really hope there’s going to be another book, and I hope whoever gets to narrate it keeps up the Geordie/Mackem accent for the Cadians. It just added a nice touch to the performance.

mediocre at best

not a bad premise, but the writing feels very middle school tier. i stopped listening 1/3 the way in due to boredom and frustration.

Lemon Russ

Only for like 1 chapter I actually noticed leman russ was pronounced lemon russ. Other than that, another amazing book! Cant wait to get onto the 3rd and onwards!

great book

I am not sure why but we follow the stories of nobles, who don't seem to be any real part of the story. a general who is hot headed and stupid and the main character who would be more bad ass if we got to see her more often.

why do I care about the age of the some old noble. worth a listen if it's free but I wouldn't pay money for it.

Mediocre, uninspired characters and development.

A few minor things annoyed me about this book. Firstly the characters were uninteresting and at times clichéd their arc felt unfinished. A certain plot line involved a dysfunctional command relationship that never really went anywhere. The other characters bar the lead characters were boring. Also minor details annoyed me like the pronunciation of Leman Russ or militaristic inaccuracies such has holding down the trigger on "semi-auto"... So em one shot then? As opposed to a fusilade. But on the positive side it was interesting to see the development of a cult unravelling. Overall, not a terrible book but feels like it could have been either a short story that was over developed or a long story underdeveloped.

Good story disappointing narration

Great story that was let down by the narrators regional accent with many names butchered such as Lemon russ tanks.

Good to sleep to

As I tend to listen to audiobooks while I'm trting to sleep, I appreciate the Narrator keeping her volume level throughout, no loud yelling but still gets across when a character is yelling/stressed

Good book

Good book and story but the narrator ruined it by constantly calling the Leman Russ tank a Lemon Russ 🤦‍♂️
