Summary

"But the stars that marked our starting fall away. We must go deeper into greater pain, for it is not permitted that we stay." (Dante Alighieri, Inferno, AD 1301)

At the start of the 22nd century, the starship Acheron is in orbit around WISE 5571, only, unbeknownst to the crew, the ship has been overrun by telepathic extraterrestrials. How do you fight an enemy that distorts everything you see? What do you do when you can't trust your own senses, let alone anyone around you?

Strange plot, but enthralling once immersed.

Loved the long ranging story and strong characters. A little dark if this is in fact possible, and also sad with the idea of war. However a great read as always.

Excellent as always with this author. Excellent narration. Thought provoking, gripping and somehow relatable. Would certainly recommend.

Thoughtful exploration of first contact

Who are the aliens? Much to ponder. Excellent writing and believable characters. I will definitely add more if his books to my collection

Interesting

I didn't 'love' it but I did finish it.
I didn't root for any of the characters though, which in itself is unusual.
The book is an interesting melange of stories you might've seen in print or on film but no spoilers.
(You did ask nicely, Peter)
