Summary
Nothing bad happens at summer camp.
That’s what my fellow camp counselors have convinced me of when the nights around the lake get a little eerie.
But when the kids all go home and the counselors throw a party on our last night at Camp Clearwater, things change. None of us could have suspected that there was a stranger watching us, or that our machete-wielding visitor doesn’t seem to like that we’re here. But when I'm attacked in the woods, he unexpectedly comes to my rescue in the most ruthless way.
Wren is terrifying, unpredictable, and possessive in a way that terrifies me. I should go to the police and stay away from him at all costs. Instead, I find myself letting him in every time he comes to play.
Can a brutal butcher ever really fall for me, or am I going to become his next victim?
Brutal is a contemporary dark romance stand-alone set in the Pleasure & Prey universe. This is an MF romance.

My Thoughts on Brutal
I loved this book just as much as the first one. Going in I knew that it was going to be an unconventional romance with an unconventional couple. But I found them to be so entertaining. I honestly loved Wren’s obsession with Hazel. I enjoyed their banter and then when they got together, the way they supported each other and fit into each other’s lives. I can’t wait to hopefully get more of these two in future books and just more from this author in general.
The narration, Victoria Connelly, was really good as well. Especially for a new to me voice. I must admit I wouldn’t have minded a male narrator though.

3.5 stars
Probably more like 3.5 stars. I really liked Wren in this but Hazel..man she was TSTL. If that's your bag then this might be the book for you but even I was rolling my eyes at her behaviour and I let a lot of stuff slide in my romances.

Brutal
The title really fits. This book is so off the normal path, and yet, it keeps you looking for more. This story had me staying up really late. The narrator did a great job and fit the story.

Wren & Hazel
We met Wren in Virgil’s book Depraved but in this book we get is full in your face persona . Oh boy is he full on in your face well Hazels at least he likes her to know he’s there his personality is ott towards those that know him and very aloof for those that don’t. Loved how Hazel kept questioning herself about wanting to be with a serial unaliver in the end she decided she wanted Wren no matter what he was . Great to hear from the other guys and Sloane and her dogs . I want to know who Mr Mystery is and if we are going to get his book 🤔

Contemporary Dark Romance
Brutal by AJ Merlin is a contemporary dark romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Victoria Connolly. This is the second book in the Pleasure and Prey series and can be read as a standalone.
I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the fast-paced relationship between Wren and Hazel.
I can't wait for the next book in the series Vicious to be released on audio so I can get Gabriel's story.
Victoria did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, stalker romances, serial killer romances, or romantic suspense.

So good!
Holy cow, was this audiobook so good! Victoria did such an amazing job bringing to life the plot AND spice 🥵 in Brutal. It was fast-paced with great spicy scenes and chemistry between Hazel and Wren. I highly recommend this primal, stalker romance dark romance to those that enjoy those tropes!

Wren…
Hazel is at camp on her last day when a seria killer decides to save her from a handsy mate. Wren enjoys killing, but something stops him from letting his instincts take Hazel. Instead, he becomes her savior. It’s a very dark romance, where Hazel falls for the very dangerous Wren.
Awesome narration.

Brutally sick
This book is fascinating, I love how these characters fall for each other. With a very frank and honest approach to their relationship it’s a breath of fresh air. A fantastic performance.
