About this listen
Reuben, aged 38, was living in a home for adults with learning disabilities and struggling to accept that he had Down's syndrome. Depressed and in a fog of anti-depressants, he hadn't spoken for over a year. Increasingly isolated, cut off from everyone and everything he loved, Reuben sent a text message: 'brother. do. you. love. me.'
When Manni received this desperate message from his youngest brother, he knew everything had to change. Together they began an extraordinary journey of repair, rediscovering the depths of their brotherhood, one gradual step at a time.
Their story of hope and resilience questions how we care for those closest to us and draws a moving portrait of brotherly love.

'Profoundly moving and hugely uplifting.' (MARK HADDON)
'Deeply touching.' (JO WHILEY)
'What Manni and Reuben have created is not just a memoir, or a stunning story, but a manifesto for how life should be lived. I will never forget this book.' (SOPHIE PAVELLE)
My only criticism is that Reuben speaks in a whisper and it is difficult to hear him when the music is playing, Surely this could have been rectified by the audible sound team?

I feel like I learned a lot from Reuben who is a beautiful and intelligent soul. I I actually grew emotionally reading this book.
The printed book has Reuben's drawings in them and that was missed here. Still giving it 5 stars, please read this!
This really is a must read

As the father of a 17 year old boy with Downs this was a mixture of familiar and learning. Thinking about my son’s own future, through the eyes of his siblings was an eye opener.
The love, humour and humanity between these two is inspiring. I can’t recommend this audio book highly enough.
Everybody and the world emotional

What a wonderful book, Manni. You write so well. And I really loved the additions of Reuben’s voice and the beautiful music, in this audio version.
I definitely feel emotional so Reuben’s aim is accomplished!
I absolutely loved all the Lion Witch and Wardrobe, Lion King and LOTR references. There’s something so powerful about Aslan, isn’t there.
I myself am severely disabled, bedbound at age 37 from a stigmatised illness, and yet I still want to applaud you (ie. in the least ableist manner) for being such a wonderful brother to Reuben. You are SUCH a blessing. I’m just in awe of the glory of such love in this world. You have a beautiful heart. As does dear, dear Reuben.
What a depth of love to be privy to
