Summary

"My name is Larkspur, and I am an Elemental."

My people use the power of the earth to sustain life and defy our enemies. I should be at my father's side as a royal princess. But as a half-breed, bastard child, that isn't going to happen.

As an Ender, one of my father's Elite guards, it's my job to do as I'm told. When my older sister is sent as an ambassador to the realm of the water elementals - the Deep - I have no choice but to accompany her as her bodyguard.

With the death of the water elemental's King, a deadly battle for the throne begins; a battle we are forced to choose sides in.

There are only a few things I know for sure. The ocean may be beautiful, but lurking in its depths are monsters to fear, the water I tread is teaming with danger and I am on my own.

With no one to help, and no one to trust, I have to find a way to keep my sister safe, and stop a civil war.

But the secrets within the Deep are far darker than any of us realized.

Welcome... welcome to the Deep.

Amazing

The story continues wherever Larkspur goes trouble will surely follow and she is never sure who is friend or foe. Traveling to the deep she fights not only to keep her sister Belladonna safe but also the rightful queen Finlay. After a terrifying and dangerous time she wins the fight only to return home to find her father once more angry that she is alive and then she is arrested what will happen next. The storyline once more is brilliant and sucks you in to this fantasy world every character is perfect and every detail spot on can't wait for the next episode.

This 2nd book is even better than the 1st!

What I absolutely love is how the author develops a character, provides brilliant description of a magical place so vivid that you can picture it clearly in your mind and a brilliant story that is full of surprises and scenes that sometimes shock me.

The narrator once again has brought the story to life and I absolutely could not wait for my commute to work where I listen to audible. Definitely a new favorite series and one I recommend.

Great Series. Great Narration.

Where does Breakwater rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my favourites

What other book might you compare Breakwater to, and why?

The elemental Series is similar to the Dark in you series as in the unique worlds these authors have create run hidden within the modern world of today. The Character Larkspur is strong yet vulnerable like Malini Singhs, Ilona Andrews etc female leads.

What about Lauren Fortgang’s performance did you like?

Her voice is easy to listen to, she brings the characters to life. Great Narrator

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

So as not to give any spoilers I will just say moments in the book where the dynamic between different characters relationships develop.

Breakwater - a wonderful listen

Larkspur finds herself in the realm of the Undines alongside her thoroughly unpleasant sister. But is her sister unpleasant through choice or by circumstance? Oh, and there’s now a cat named Peta. She’s also a bad ass She, just like Lark.

I absolutely loved this book. The story just keeps on giving and giving and Lark never gives up. Beautifully written and wonderfully narrated and same as the first book I’ve listened twice before reviewing and loved it both times. So much is crammed in I defy you not to spot something new each time.

I’m off to get the next in their series Fire Storm - it’s a must have.

Another enjoyable listen

As always Shannon builds worlds and relationships that suck you in and take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Larks story is starting to get really nitty gritty and I just want to find out more.
